"Some portraits capture what a pet looks like. I capture who they really are."

Hi, I'm Lei le Grand — an artist based in Sliedrecht, the Netherlands.

I've always been drawn to the quiet language of animals. The way a single look can reveal an entire personality. The sparkle in their eyes, the softness of their fur, the muddy paws at the door — the small, unrepeatable details that make your animal unmistakably themselves.

My watercolor portraits are colorful, expressive, and deeply personal. I don't work from a formula. I study each photo carefully, looking for the thing that makes your pet them — and I paint that. The result is something that doesn't just hang on your wall. It lives there.

At home I share my life with two Maine Coon cats and a Doberman named Chloé. The cats’ wildly different personalities remind me every day how unique each animal truly is. The Doberman is strong, elegant, loyal and extremely determined. She reminds me of my own focus, strength and capabilities. These daily observations of my animal crew shape everything I paint.

While pet portraits are at the heart of what I do, I'm equally inspired by wildlife. Painting wild animals sharpens my understanding of expression, anatomy, and spirit — and that knowledge flows into every portrait I create.

Each painting is made with care, patience, and deep respect for the bond you share with your animal. Whether it's a personal gift, a memorial, or something beautiful for your home — I'd be honoured to create it for you.
