"Some portraits capture what a pet looks like. I capture who they really are."
About the Artist
Hi, I'm Lei le Grand — an artist based in Sliedrecht, the Netherlands.
I've always been drawn to the quiet language of animals. The way a single look can reveal an entire personality. The sparkle in their eyes, the softness of their fur, the muddy paws at the door — the small, unrepeatable details that make your animal unmistakably themselves.
My watercolor portraits are colorful, expressive, and deeply personal. I don't work from a formula. I study each photo carefully, looking for the thing that makes your pet them — and I paint that. The result is something that doesn't just hang on your wall. It lives there.
At home I share my life with two Maine Coon cats and a Doberman named Chloé. Their wildly different personalities — one endlessly curious, one deeply loyal, one who knocks things off tables for fun — remind me every day how unique each animal truly is. These daily observations shape everything I paint.
While pet portraits are at the heart of what I do, I'm equally inspired by wildlife. Painting wild animals sharpens my understanding of expression, anatomy, and spirit — and that knowledge flows into every portrait I create.
Each painting is made with care, patience, and deep respect for the bond you share with your animal. Whether it's a personal gift, a memorial, or something beautiful for your home — I'd be honoured to create it for you.
