Watercolor Labrador Portraits
Joyful, devoted, endlessly themselves — Labradors deserve a portrait that captures all of it. Hand-painted originals on fine art paper, made just for your dog.
From €80 · Ships worldwide · Ready in 2–3 weeks
Labradors are the most popular dog in the world for a reason.
They're uncomplicated in the best possible sense — genuinely happy, genuinely present, genuinely yours.
But every Labrador owner knows their dog isn't just any Labrador. There's a specific tilt of the head, a particular look they give you, a personality that's entirely their own.
Lei le Grand paints Labrador portraits that go beyond the breed. Using professional watercolours on 100% cotton fine art paper, she captures not what a Labrador looks like — but what yours looks like. The warmth in the eyes, the energy in the expression, the thing that makes your dog unmistakably theirs.
Every portrait is painted entirely by hand. No digital filters, no AI. Just close attention and real paint on real paper.
Painting Labradors
Labradors are one of the most painted dog breeds in the world — which means a generic portrait is easy to find and a truly personal one is rare. That's exactly what Lei focuses on. Not a Labrador. Your Labrador.
The three classic colours — yellow, black, and chocolate — each present their own watercolour challenges. Yellow Labs require careful work with warm whites and pale golds to avoid the coat looking flat. Black Labs demand confidence with dark pigment, building depth without losing detail. Chocolate Labs sit somewhere between — rich reddish-browns that shift beautifully in different light. Lei has painted all three and approaches each with the same close attention.
What makes a Labrador portrait come alive is the expression. The breed has an almost embarrassing openness — they wear every emotion on their face, from wild excitement to deep contentment. Catching that particular moment, that specific look your Lab gives you, is what Lei is always working toward.
A portrait that lasts
Every commission is painted on 300gsm 100% cotton fine art paper using professional lightfast watercolours — archival quality built to last for decades. Labradors are family dogs in the truest sense, and a portrait of one belongs on the wall where family memories live.
If your Labrador has passed away, Lei also paints memorial portraits from photos. It's some of the most meaningful work she does.

THE ARTIST
"I've always been drawn to the quiet language of animals — the way a single look can reveal an entire personality."
Hi, I'm Lei. I’m a watercolor artist who lives with two Maine Coon cats and a Doberman named Chloé — and they inspire me every day.
My portraits aren't just likenesses. They're about the sparkle in the eyes, the muddy paws at the door, the feeling of unconditional love.

Candid shots often produce the best portraits — a moment of calm alertness, a favourite resting spot, or that classic Lab look of hopeful attention. Send three to five photos and Lei will select the one that has the most life in it.
-
Yes. Lei has painted Labradors from old family photos and from photos of dogs who have passed away. As long as the image is reasonably clear, she can work with it.

Both sizes work well for Labs. A4 (€80) is a popular choice as a gift. A3 (€150) gives more room for detail and makes a stronger statement on the wall.
-
One of the best. Lab owners tend to be deeply attached to their dogs — a hand-painted portrait of their specific Lab is something they'll treasure for years.
